It’s been a thrilling and inspiring Olympics — and at such a sociable time too! So much so that some may find themselves watching the closing ceremony with a heavy heart. For those who will miss the City of Love after their Olympics fling, fear not. Your Paris summer affair is not over. The ditzy rom-com — ridiculed by some, adored by others — is back for a fourth series, so prepare to be swept off your feet by Lily Collins in a beret.Netflix, Aug 15
The hit comedy Colin from Accounts returns next month, but in the meantime, Aussie fireworks are provided by this courtroom thriller, the first series of which has been streamed more than 26 million times since launching on ITVX last year. Sam Neill returns as the legal genius Brett Colby SC, his latest murder trial once again seen through the eyes of 12 ordinary jurors.ITVX, Aug 15
The world’s biggest comedy-drama about amateur podcasters solving murders returns and, while its fans will need little further convincing, know that series three guest star Meryl Streep will return. Other cast additions include Melissa McCarthy, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis.Disney+, Aug 27
The first series of the billion-dollar Lord of the Rings prequel may have received an ambivalent reaction from some critics, but the fantasy epic was Prime Video’s biggest debut series (according to the streamer). In part two things really start to gather pace. Sauron is now very much the main antagonist, giving Galadriel the evil eye, and Rory Kinnear joins as Tom Bombadil.Prime Video, Aug 29
A six-part French true crime thriller directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, the Oscar-winning film-maker behind the docuseries The Staircase, recounts the extraordinary legal case of a serial rapist who attacked women over 30 years from the 1980s in the same location. Each episode is told from the perspective of a different character involved in the case — and, ultimately, the perpetrator himself.BBC4, coming soon
